Reading Comprehension 

What is reading comprehension? 

      Reading comprehension is the process of constructing meaning from text.  Simple put, the reader needs to understand what they are reading and be able to put this meaning into their own correct meaning. 

 

How can reading comprehension be improved?

      Many think that if they just have their child read and read more this will improve their reading comprehension. 

      This is a false belief:  The only way to improve reading comprehension is by teaching reading strategies that work to them.

      The child needs to know what to do:

                  Before they read

                  During reading

                  After reading

 

That is what we teach them. 

We offer one on one classes one to two times a week for one hour.
